When the anthology is described as "hard SF adventure at it's best" and when it features such stunning line up that includes sf titans like Hannu Rajaniemi, Alastair Reynolds, Stephen Baxter, Paul McAuley and others, there is not much that can go wrong. And it doesn't. "Edge of Infinity" is definitely one of the best short story collections of the year.
As always Strahan is fantastic in the role of the editor and "Edge Of Infinity" can be best described as logical continuation of his previous anthology "Engineering Infinity". Best of the lot in our opinion is are stories from Alastair Reynolds ("Vainglory") and Stephen Baxter ("Obelisk") but truth be told, all stories as remarkably good. What I liked the best is the fact that the stories are not depressing and hark best to the days when science fiction was mostly about human exploration of the space.
To conclude : another stunning anthology from Solaris Books. Well worth getting for your daily science fiction short story fix.
